ABOUT

David Wood - Master Thatcher

Based in Handsacre, Near Rugeley in Staffordshire, I started thatching straight after leaving school, beginning a seven year apprenticeship with Derbyshire Master Thatcher, George Mellor. I have had my own business since 1983. I work with traditional methods and materials, and thatching takes me all over the country but predominantly I work in the midlands. As a member and Chairman of The North of England & Scotland Master Thatchers Association, I work hard to ensure a high quality and standard of workmanship.  I love what I do and take great pride in doing the best job I can for my customers. I am happy to provide free quotes and advice regarding all aspects of thatch.

I undertake all types of thatching work including minor/major repairs, spar coating, full re-thatch and general maintenance of the roof. I thatch Summer Houses, Gazebos, Garden Buildings, Lych Gates etc.

As well as roof work, I also make and thatch a range of dovecotes, bird feeders and decorative garden features (see PRODUCTS page) these items make a great addition to the garden and are also ideal gifts.
